Title:Commercialization opportunity for Multi–Avalanche Diamond (MAD) detector with Mission Support and Test Services (MSTS).Background Information:Diamond photoconductive detectors can detect fast neutrons with a higher cross–section for interaction than gamma rays. Typical commercially available single crystal chemical vapor deposition diamond detectors are approximately 500 microns thick with electrical contacts on either side. These devices do not exhibit inherent gain without an impractically large external voltage applied to the system and therefore must be fielded very close to a neutron source to reasonably measure the desired signal. External amplifiers also introduce unwanted noise and take up space that can already be limited. MSTS has developed a small profile, high inherent multiplicative gain fast neutron detector that overcomes the limitations of existing systems.
